Virtualization for SMBs
What is virtualization?
Virtualization is a technology which makes it possible for a single physical computer to contain several virtual servers, each operating independently with its own operating system. For example, a single computer can house a Windows 2003 server and a Windows 2008 server. The two servers will appear as two different environments, each with its own applications, its own disk space and such, but both will physically be located in the same computer.
There are various technologies which enable virtualization; the one with which most people are familiar is VMware.
Why virtualize?
Virtualization enables cost reduction and enhances continuation of operations.
Some advantages of virtualization
- Cost reduction
Virtualization makes it possible to reduce the number of physical servers and simplify infrastructure. It thus lets you reduce costs related to equipment purchase and maintenance. You also save on the technical resources necessary for administration.
- Greater availability
Because the physical component (computer) is separate from the virtual component (server), virtualization provides greater flexibility and better continuity of operations. Thus, following an unprogrammed service interruption, an entire server can be put back into operation much more quickly because reconfiguration of the entire server is not necessary. Moreover, a virtual server can be moved from one machine to another with no service interruption.
- Increased security
Virtualization can be applied to a company's workstations. Workstations, now virtual, are all deployed, managed, and monitored on a single machine. Users can thus access the data of any workstation, and system administrators can perform management tasks from a centralized environment, thereby simplifying maintenance and security.
Our certified VMware technicians can implement an effective virtualization environment. We can consolidate your existing servers by virtualizing them and adding new virtual servers - all by means of a secure solution with zero downtime.
